Here’s what you need to know as a Houston fan for Thursday’s game.
There are three Houston players to be on the lookout for to stand out against Tulane.
1. Senior Cornerback
Marcus Jones
who leads the nation with two punt return touchdowns. Jones is the fifth player in the school’s history and the first since 1968 to record multiple punt return touchdowns in a season. Jones is someone who makes the most of every chance he gets. Jones is a dual-threat with one thing in mind and that is scoring.

2. Quarterback
Clayton Tune
who leads The American conference and ranks 11th nationally with a 71.3 completion rate.1.

3. True freshman running back
Alton McCaskill
, who is tied for first nationally against other true freshmen in total touchdowns. McCaskill rushed for three touchdowns against Tulsa last game, and that gives him seven over the last four contests.

Last week, Houston made a statement in a 45-10 victory over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. Houston played explosively with a strong defense thanks to defensive coordinator coach Doug Belk. The Cougars are 10th in the nation in scoring defense, if Houston's defense plays as strongly as last week’s game, they can easily dominate Tulane. If Houston wins, this will move the team to 3-0 in AAC play, the best start for Houston since 2018. It would also be Houston's third-straight road win -- the longest since winning four straight on the road in2015.

Houston Offers 2022 Athlete Jarred Kerr of Lexington, Texas.

Kerr currently holds three offers. In addition to his newest offer from Houston, Arkansas and Baylor were also previously in the mix.

On the Houston Offer

"I don't know a whole lot about them but I definitely want to visit and go see," Kerr told Cougarsden.

Kerr told us that Yesterday was the first day he's talked with Houston coaches but they told the Lexington (TX) standout that they'll be in contact weekly.

Kerr also noted that prior to Houston entering the mix, Baylor was the school he heard from the most.

"I don't have any favorites really, but Baylor talks to me the most," he said. "I haven't taken any visits yet but Baylor will be the first place I visit and Texas also wanted me to come out."

As a 2022 prospect Kerr is in no rush to make a decision and says it likely won't come until sometime after his junior season.

Recruiting Guidry Previews Decision

I spoke with Pearland (TX) Shadow Creek standout CJ Guidry to preview his decision in a few weeks where he'll commit to one of his top three schools out of Houston, Texas Tech and Nebraska. While he was careful not to tip his hand there was one thing he said that really stood out to me. It also lined up with what I've heard from contacts at Houston, Nebraska and Texas Tech.

On The Recruiting Process

"The recruiting process was a breathe taking experience it was exciting, coming down to these threw schools was awesomen" Guidry told Cougarsden.

On Why He Chose These Three Schools

"They all gave me a home like feeling and Houston vibes."

What He Said That Really Stood Out

I was asking Guidry if he already had his mind made up and was just waiting to announce it or if he was still going through the motions on deciding between the three and he had an interesting quote to follow.

"It's still up in the air but hey, there's no place like home you know?"

The Scoop

Decision day is July 11th. I kind of feel like the quote above was his subtle way of giving me a heads up. But there's always a chance he just said it not thinking about it.

But it does line up with what I've heard from contacts around all three programs. The Houston staff is very confident. Guidry talks to wide receivers coach Tyron Carrier just about every other day and tells me he views Carrier as a second dad to him. Guidry is also close with some of Houston's current commits and existing players.

He's never visited Nebraska and folks around the program there feel like he's likely headed elsewhere.

I texted Matt Clare at the Texas Tech site to see how the staff there was feeling and apparently the Tech staff has told them "Its not us", indicating he's headed elsewhere.

Crazier things have happened but I'd be very surprised at this point if Houston wasn't the pick.

Football Six Week Camp on the Horizon?

According to Yahoo Sports' Pete Thamel.

It appears like a six-week preseason camp is going to be the recommendation by the NCAA football oversight committee, which will be formally presented to the NCAA Division I Council in mid-June.

In late April, many coaches around the country were voicing a desire for a 6-8 week period to get ready for the 2020 season.
