Right now there is no reason to be optimistic about our 2019 schedule. And right now we have way more question marks than we have answers for. Of course we do not play our 2019 schedule right now. We began on August 31, 2019. Between right now and then CMA has a daunting task facing him and truthfully I am not so sure he can come up with all the answers. For example, some things are going to be beyond his control....like whether or not King is going to make a full recovery and can play at a pre-injury level. We can all hope for the best but right now no one knows that answer. Does anyone think one of the QBs currently on our roster can beat an Oklahoma? I don't. Even with King the chance of beating OU is very small. Sure, it could happen but right now this UH team in no way resembles the one who accomplished that task in 2016.
That said, lets see what CMA is able to do with the hand that he has been dealt. His future depends on it and in some ways it is not fair as the deck seems to be stacked against him. But that is football and that is why he makes the big bucks. The exceptional coaches rise to the occasion and solve most of their problems. CMA gets his chance to show us what he is truly made of. Will he perform exceptionally or will he attempt to climb to the mountain top only to slide back down? We will began to find out soon as soon as his DC selection is made known. Until then here is what his record will look like in 2019 if he did nothing and the injuries do not heal as we all hope for. This shows us how daunting a task CMA faces.
OU: L
W. ST: L
@ NT St: Toss up (return most of skill positions on a nationally ranked offense, loss some D)
TDA: Probably an FCS: W
Cin: L at home
Mem: L at home
Navy: Toss up
SMU: L at home until CKB shows us he can beat a cover 2/3 defense if he can't run the ball
@ Tulane: toss up, an away game we find a way to lose like last year.
@ Tulsa: toss up, see Tulane
@ UCF: L, even without Milton we lose this game given our current situation
@ UConn: a shaky W
2019 Record: 2 W, 6 L, 4 Toss ups.
Even if CMA wins all the toss ups he is a .500 coach at best and he is gone. I cannot stress how big a hill he has to climb next season. But if he is successful he should get a raise and an extension of his contract. Success for me means winning the division with at least 9 wins. Less than that and he should be shown the door. Fair? Debatable, but that is why he makes over a million a year.....to be exceptional. He will have had 3 years to hit the exceptional target. If he does not do it he should be shown the door. Just my opinion.
