Franchione is a 4-2-5 guy. That's what they run at Texas St. That's what Patterson ran for Fran at TCU.
So the Washington hire from Texas St makes perfect sense if we are indeed hiring our DC from TCU.
Then you have the Naivar connection to Franchione. He was a grad assistant to Fran at New Mexico and TCU back in 1996-1998. He was DC for Franchione and ran the 4-2-5 at Texas St from 2011-2013. Hell, even Kentucky under Mark Stoops played a bunch of 4-2-5 last year.
All signs are pointing to the Coogs shifting to a 4-2-5 next year.
I'm fine with it. It seems tailor-made to defend spread offenses. We did well with it in 1999. TCU was able to dominate with it by recruiting certain body types and growing their own DL.
