. . . we smacked UT in Austin 30-0 in our first year in the SWC and on the way to the Cotton Bowl.

We were 19 and UT was 20th. We'd end up 4 and UT 5-5-1 in DKR's final season.

It was a &$^&+ beat down . . . in a game we knew that we were going to win. Earl was hurt and, with him or without him, we were the better team. In that unmistakable mark of good coaching, Coach's teams got better as the year went along and it was November.

I had never been to a game in Memorial Stadium and I can see that beautiful sunny day in my mind's eye still. I have no question that David Stoddard remembers that day even better than I do . . . because Wilson lined up over him.

The play I remember most is that last TD by Charlie Lynch, just a human bowling ball of an RB, bouncing of UT defenders on about a 25 yard run. He literally looked as if he'd been chiseled out of granite. And one of the nicest guys that every drew a breath.

Glorious.
