A comparison to 50 years ago that gives reason for hope.

In the late '60s, we had great football, basketball, and golf success. And an out of nowhere CWS appearance in '67. We played in the Dome and were building Hofheinz.

And we got invited to the SWC in 1971. We got invited because we were good and played in good facilities. (When I got here in the fall of 1972, however, I quickly realized we were having all this great success on a shoestring.)

Fast forward a half century. We've got better facilities than I ever dreamed we'd have. And more on the field success across the board, i.e., in other sports, than anytime ever. But basketball just had its first "good" season in forever, and football has had only three noteworthy seasons in the last dozen years. That's where the rubber will hit the road for us.

If we can keep basketball pointed in its current direction and get football to a SUSTAINED level of success, this could very well rival the period between '66 and '84 in Cougar athletic history.

Fingers crossed.
