There wasn't a ton today in terms of things jumping out. Everyone was very busy and plenty of things were happening but I just floated around a bit and actually stood and watched the offensive line workout for a while since I am shooting to talk with coach Warehime afterwards.
What I did catch in terms of alignments and depth chart stuff was this:
1st team Offense - OL (L-R) Jones, Denley, Noble, Eloph and Rodgers
Ward was flanked in the backfield by Catalon and Isaiah Johnson with Bonner split right and Dunbar to the left. McCloskey was the TE.
I did't get all of the 2s but noticed Eloph was working both sets. I believe he was switching to the left guard spot with the 2s.
Defensively, up front remained the same with Thurman and Carter and Malveaux manning the line, backed up by Steven Taylor, D'Juan Hines and Tyus Bowser with the LBs. Wilson and Winchester were the corners and Terrell Williams, Garrett Davis and Khalil Williams manned the defensive backfield.
When time came for the punters and punt returners to work, Herman went out of his way to be around that part of the field and was very vocal as they worked together.
The punt returners working today were Dunbar, Johnson, Bonner, Catalon and Howard Wilson(?)
The snappers worked in order Faires, Pardee, Letter and the punters were Boyles and then Postma.
Herman was very adamant that he did;t need his punter to kick it 60 yards but more importantly needed good hang time. He was very involved for about 5-10 minutes while another drill waited on him.
One more great point from the daily Herman speech to the players before practice gets underway. Today he used a good analogy, asking a player
"..If I had a suitcase and told you there was 1Million in it and all you had to get it was go 100% every play with the most effort you have. You don't have to perform perfectly and mistakes are ok, but you must give 100% every play. Of course everyone would do it. Now if I tell that same player, here are 85 suitcases filled with 1 Million each and if that same player game 100% again, everyone on the team gets a suitcase. That player would get it done, knowing his team and family were counting on him. There is no reason why we can not have that mentality every day in putting forth 100% for each other."
Recruits I noticed today were:
Walker Little (Episcopal OT), Tyrus Williams of Liberty (need to do some homework on him and I pass it along), Zachary Herman (Lake Travis OT),
They have a recruiting event planned by the end of spring ball but I am still working on some details. It will likely be Houston centric, probably similar to last year's H-Town Takeover Night which got the ball rolling locally. I'll pass a little more on as well as soon as I can.
Also, most saw that Dylan Moses stopped by Sunday while in town for the Houston Nike regional. There was also a group that came by Saturday that included: Nick Robinson, Frank Harris, Stephan Zabie, Sam Ehlinger, Andre Harris Jr. and Kendall Sweet . I was told Robinson took in many Texas school on a trip through to the Nike camp, including Houston, A&M and a couple more. He said Houston was the best stop on his Texas swing. I should have thoughts from him on his visit very soon.
One last recruiting nugget for the moment. Houston just offered 2018 Episcopal WR Jaylen Waddle, they are his first offer and likely first of many. A&M is also close to an offer to the young speedster.
