Looking back, our scoring defense was actually decent, ranking 42nd at 23.8 points a game. There were some games in which our Coogs just needed to out score our opponents. Unfortunately, in 2017, we could not do that and our OC lost his job.

For example, the Texas Tech game ended 24-27. Just three points separated us from extending the game. Only four more points would have given us the win. I see UH going into Lubbock and bringing home the victory this year. Our defense will be awesome. Our offense will score in the 30's-40's against the Red Raider paltry defense. With CKB at the helm last year this game would be a win.

The Tulsa loss is not one I can explain. It is just one of those games that got out of hand. But scoring only 17 points will almost never get you the win in our conference. This I know, however. If UH had the offense last year we are going to have this year UH would have kept the ball away from Tulsa and scored way more points. We might have still lost the game in a squeaker but it would not have been the embarrassing 17-45 fiasco we suffered through against a team that would only win one other game last year.

That brings us to the 17-20 loss to Tulane, another team that finished with a losing record. This is the same song, second verse, as the TT game. Just three more points extends and four more points wins the game against a team many call too-lame. Who thinks we score just 17 against them this year?

So, wrapping this up, if UH had a decent offense last year and everything else stayed the same, our record should have been at least 9-2 in the regular season. For CMA's first year that would have been more than acceptable.

Looking ahead:

Buckle up your seat belts this year boys and girls. It is going to be one heck of a wild ride to what should be a fantastic season.
