Belton (TX) three-star safety Garrison Vaughn made the call and ended his recruitment on Friday evening, which was the first of a two commitment weekend for the Houston staff.

His decision came about a week after announcing his top three of Houston, Air Force and Tulsa and on the same day where he broke down his top three.

Outside of his top three he also held offers from Bowling Green, Brown, Colorado State, Columbia, Dartmouth, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, New Mexico State, Princeton and Stephen F. Austin.

I think it's safe to say that grades won't be an issue here.

Analysis & Breakdown

Vaughn is a 6-foot-1, 180-pound safety that is smart on and off the football field. He's a high football IQ similar to that of a Colin Wilder where he has the ability to be the "Quarterback" of the defense and lead from the defensive backfield.

Physically, he's athletic and excels in his pursuit to the ball carrier. Was used as a gunner on the punt team and in kickoff coverage which he features in his hudl highlights. Shows ability to read and react to plays out of the defensive backfield when used as a free flowing safety. Displays good ball skills with the ball in the air and has exceptional hands for a defensive back. Solid in run support.

He had 103 tackles during his junior year which led him to a 6A first-team All-State selection. With some coaching he can be even more dangerous out of the backfield.

I think he shows some similar characteristics to Houston's young safety Colin Wilder, both high football IQ guys, that are athletic and physical in the defensive backfield. Wilder may be the more physical of the two, but Vaugh may have the better hands at the safety position.

He's got the talent to come in and compete, but I think he would benefit greatly from sitting a year and learning behind a guy like Wilder who will have a couple of years on campus by the time Vaughn makes his way to Cullen Blvd.
