First, I apologize if I butchered spelling.
Watched the post game presser. Three very sad, very pissed guys. Reminds me that no matter how much we care as fans, we simply don't have the physical investment into the game that the men on the field and in the coaching box do.
To my point. I came away very impressed by Major. He was all business. More importantly, he had a clear vision:
1. You have to run the ball to win.
2. Once you have established a championship standard, you can not allow distractions. He sighted pre-game distractions at Navy, at SMU and this week that get in the way of winning. He was very complimentary towards Chase Allen, but at the same time, was firm in his disciplinary approach.
3. He restated the importance of taking care of the kids on the team as his first priority moving forward, under which he lumped in the recruiting of coaches and players.
4. He took responsibility for communication issues between staff and players during game and largely took responsibility for Greg's poor performance.
5. He defended his defense, making it clear that their challenges were simply a result of the offense spitting the bit with turnovers.
I truly believe that Major has every intangible to be a highly successful coach at Houston. You can see his competitive nature. Despite looking 11 years old (he looks younger than both of his players), he has a resonance, a maturity about him. He was pissed that we got destroyed. So was I. Glad to see that he hates losing. At the same time, he kept his head. He is smarter than the average dude. Smart typically will figure it out.
I'll buy two season tickets and hope to get into Houston to see a game or two in person after that presser. Team needs our support. Clearly, we have to get the running game fixed, and we will need to replace three critical defensive players in Taylor, Malveaux and Wilson. That said, I've spent my professional career betting on smart, competitive people of exceptional character. I believe Major will get us back on track.
In the meantime, going to enjoy what Coach Sampson has put together on the basketball court and look forward to a bit of Coog baseball in the spring.
The skies are brighter today. The past is in the past. Let's gooo.
