Last fall I said that I couldn't see anything in Major's past that says he's ready for the best G5 job in the country. Sadly, I think it's still 100% true.

His career:

- Major goes to Cuse as QB coach in 2005 and they scored 152 points - it is still the lowest point total at Syracuse since 1984. Just 13.8 ppg. To put it in perspective, UCF has scored 284 points this year in just 6 games.

- He then went to Rice as OC as they abandoned the wishbone. Owls got better - averaged 5 points more (26 ppg) a game than they had in 2005. Tanked in the bowl vs Troy.

- After that season, he was named OC at Alabama in mid-January 2007 before Saban's first season. By mid-season, Saban was looking to get rid of him. Major's offense went in the tank in November, scoring 12-14-10 in losses to Sylvester Croom/Miss State, Auburn, and Louisiana-Monroe. He was not coming back at Alabama when he got a lifeline at Texas from Mack Brown.

- He took a demotion and became RB coach at Texas. He became "Co-OC" with Bryan Harsin in 2011 but it was a pay-grade deal - Harsin called plays both years he was at UT. Harsin left in Dec 2012 to take Ark State job.

In 2013, Major got playcalling duties and Texas scored 84 less points - 6.5 ppg less a game. Once again, his offense cratered late - scoring 13, 10, and 7 against OkSt, Baylor, and Oregon in 3 of last 4 games. The staff was fired after his one year as play-caller.

- Major came to UH in 2015 and was OC of a very good offensive team - although one greatly aided by turnover margin (+21 - #2 in the country). Since then, without the great turnover margin, we've been 7-5 in the league and our scoring average has gone from 40.4 to 35.8 to 27.3.

What we are seeing with the offense isn't a one-time thing.
