Houston head coach Dana Holgorsen and staff continue to do a great job getting top talent on campus for visits. We've previously mentioned the job they've done getting Rivals 250 DB Avery Helm on campus not, once but multiple times and that trend of getting top talent in for visits continued this week as well.
Rivals four-star athlete Ja'Khi Douglas visited earlier in the week after a 7-on-7 tournament in Houston. Douglas already has 20-plus offers on the table. Some of the schools that have offered in addition to Houston are Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, SMU, TCU, Tennessee and Tulane.
He's fresh off of a visit to LSU and the visit to Houston could help get the Cougars back into the mix for the Pelican State standout who told Rivals.com that there were five schools that really had his attention, while Houston was not listed as one of the five schools, a successful visit could certainly help their case. There's certainly time to improve their standing as Douglas has no intentions of committing anytime soon.
“I’m open right now. I’m not committing to anyone anytime soon. I’ll probably wait until next year, maybe during the football season I’ll make a decision, or on signing day I’ll make a decision.”
According to Douglas he'd like to find the perfect mix of academics and offensive fit when it comes to what he's looking for in a program at the next level.
“The biggest (factor) is what’s the best fit for me. To see where the offense is, who can get me the ball in my hands a lot, that would be nice. Then, also academics. To find the best fit for me academically and the offense for me with a great coaching staff -- that’s where I’m gonna choose," the four-star prospect told Rivals.com's Sam Spiegelman.
One name that may be worth watching for the future is 2021 WR Teddy Knox of Baton Rouge (LA) Southern Lab. He was on campus visiting Houston yesterday and the Cougars are one of five schools in early on the Louisiana product. His five offers are Arizona State, Houston, Louisiana-Lafayette, Southern and Tennessee.
The 5-foot-11, 165-pound WR has not yet been evaluated by Rivals but is an interesting name out of Louisiana for the class of 2021 and the Cougars getting in early with him could certainly help them down the road.
Back to the class of 2020, Aldine Macarthur athlete Josh Eaton is considered to be one of the top overall athletes in the Houston area for the class of 2020 and was on campus Thursday evening. He was recently offered by Texas and picked up a few recent futurecast predictions to the Longhorns, but Houston getting him on campus can't go unnoticed. He also holds offers from Baylor, Florida, Georgia Tech, LSU, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, TCU and Texas Tech to name a few.
