As we discussed previously the Houston staff had a big recruiting weekend on tap this weekend. On Thursday they hosted several big time targets on campus for unofficial visits while some of the staff hit the Pelican State stopping by several high school in Louisisana.
Friday through Sunday was the big official visit weekend we discussed previously. Heading into the week the Houston staff was expecting five official visitors, but hoping for six.
The confirmed list of five suddenly dropped to four when defensive line target Jaden Cunningham committed to Virginia Tech late on Wednesday night. Still, Houston managed to pull in four key official visitors this weekend as they hope to finish the class on a high note. Here's a look at who's on campus this weekend.
Pelican State running back Terrell Brown of Harvey (LA) Helen Cox was a back that the staff identified late in the process. He's got ten plus offers including the likes of Houston, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana Tech and Ole Miss to name a few.
Johnson is a prospect we've discussed previously here on the Den. The new staff did a tremendous job making up ground late in the process and securing the official visit. He's really high on Houston right now and the Cougars appear to be in a really good spot heading into signing day. A successful visit could yield some good news for Houston sometime between now and signing day. Put this one on commit watch. Another school really battling for Johnson is Colorado, but I'm leaving my futurecast pick with Houston unless I hear anything new that changes my stance.
The Houston staff put a priority on the defensive line late in the recruiting cycle. One of the top targets remaining on their board is Hutchinson (KS) Hutchinson C.C DT Jamykal Neal. The JUCO product holds offers from Houston, Akron, UMass and South Alabama. You have to really like Houston's chances here securing the late visit. Wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he signed with Houston on Wednesday.
Another prospect the Houston staff put a priority on was Atlias Bell who received a visit last week from Brian Early. He holds offers from Houston, Akron, Bowling Green, Louisiana Tech, New Mexico and UTSA. He's already visited Akron and New Mexico and Houston gets that all important final visit heading into the week of National Signing Day. I really like Houston's chances here as well to land the Rivals three-star JUCO product.
Visits wrap up on Sunday and we'll be working on getting some feedback from each visitor after their visits wrap up. So stay tuned, it looks like Houston could be in for a strong close for 2019.
