Houston hosted it's first of three camps today and tomorrow with a camp in conjunction with Texas A&M. The camp was held at Lancaster High School. The turnout was lower than Monday's camp surprisingly, but there is a lot of competition this week as several programs are running camps across the state of Texas. I don't have an exact number of prospects that were on hand but there were roughly between 100-150 prospects in attendance I would estimate.

It was another camp that featured high school prospects in conjunction with JUCO recruits.

Camp Layout

It was pretty similar to the mini camp in Houston Monday, with the addition of guest coaches from not only Texas A&M, but at least one FCS program in Northwestern State out of Natchitoches, Louisiana. They pretty much had the same rundown, measurables like height and weight, broad jump, 40-yard dash, etc. Today's camp was different in one element as the groups were split up on two separate fields where they ran through their individual position drills and one-on-ones.

Coaches in Attendance

The entire Houston staff was on hand and worked with their designated position groups. For the Aggies Kevin Sumlin was in attendance with Terry Price who coaches defensive ends, Terry Joseph who coaches defensive backs, Clarence McKinney who coaches running backs and special teams/tight end coach Jeff Banks was on hand for the Aggies. There were about four or five coaches from Northwestern State on hand as well.

Top Performers at Camp

Of all the camp performers in attendance one of the most notable names was Weatherord (TX) defensive tackle Zacchaeus McKinney who was easily one of the top performers of camp. McKinney hols a Houston offer and performed well in every aspect of camp.

Check out his hudl highlights below

Another top performer in attendance was Carrollton (TX) defensive lineman Dayo Odeyingbo who was another standout among the defensive line group. Odeyingbo is another guy that holds a Houston offer that outperformed his peers at camp.

2018 Standout

One prospect that really showed out was 2018 prospect Joshua Fleeks of Cedar Hill (TX). Fleeks was one of the top performers on the offensive side of the ball and worked out at both receiver and running back. Fleeks did enough to impress the Houston coaching staff during camp as he was offered shortly after camp concluded.

Camp Surprise

One of the big surprises of camp for me was seeing JUCO offensive lineman Dominique Hearne who was originally from Lancaster (TX) with the class of 2015 and signed with Oklahoma before enrolling with Navarro Junior College. Hearne is now with Navarro and was consistently getting praise from the Houston staff during his workouts.

I had a nice video I was trying to show you of a one-on-one showdown between Hearne and Odeyingbo, but I just recently did the windows 10 update and now my video is kind of screwy. So apologies there. When I save the video from windows movie maker it only saves the audio. If I can ever figure it out within the next day or so I'll add it to this thread for you.

Spoiler alert, Odeyingbo bested him 2 reps to 1.
