You know, considering the disappointment of the last two seasons - specifically the end to the 2016 season and the entirety of last season.. We really aren't in a bad place going into this year.
During the whole BIG12 realignment fiasco, we were legitimately considered by many to "belong" and "add value" to the conference. We've maintained that perception around the nation since.
We're now the media's favorite G5 to talk about. We're cooler than Boise St, and less flash in the pan/gimmicky than the Natty Champs UCF.
Selected by SI as the G5 NY6 favorite over aforementioned 11-3 and 13-0 teams from a year ago. And I don't really know why?
Getting love in the preseason AP poll after winning just 7* games last year, including losses to Tulane and Tulsa, and having a coach who is unproven. Lots of new pieces.
We were fortunate to land the best OC in the conference (IMO).. and some legit transfer talent that will make an impact.. but were really pretty fortunate to stumble onto it all.
We even have a friendly schedule this year.. A legit shot at two P5 wins to start the year and the tougher conference games toward the back half of the schedule.
I just feel like we are fortunate to be where we are and have a great opportunity to maintain/regain momentum from 2015 if we can seize the moment and win the conference this year. Just hope we can take advantage of it!
