Tomorrow (Thursday) Walter R. Jones, known as Bubba Jones when he played, will become a UH Letterman rather late in life.

Bubba played on the ‘47 Cougar team, but because he joined the team mid season he was never awarded a letter even though he got some playing time. Read a nice article about him from back then with Jewell Wallace giving him high praise.

He is the father of a friend of mine, and tomorrow at his Hobby Rotary Club he is being given his UH Letter from ‘47.

Walter was a long time coach and principal in HISD, and was one of the people trying to get Clyde Drexler to UH as Clyde was a student of his.

He is 95 and suspects he is the last living player from the ‘47 team. Sadly his wife passed away about two weeks ago. They met at UH.

Walter still closely follows UH recruiting and the team, always asking for updates.
