Tom Fornelli has a decent record of spotting the next coach moving up to P5 U. He is at it again with two of the five coaches currently residing in the AAC. We could have some surprises with teams recording outstanding seasons in 2018 also. In only his second year at UH I don't see a CMA leaving even with a NY6 bowl on his resume.
Here is his list:
5. Ken Niumatalolo, Navy. Like Paul Johnson, KN might be ready to jump ship for the right situation.
4. One of my favorites to move on up is Neal Brown from Troy. This will be his fourth year at Troy. He has done well after a slow first year to right the ship. He sports a win over LSU on his resume from last year.
3. A P5 defensive assistant coach, Greg Schiano, could very well land another head coaching gig. He has added coaching under Urban Meyer at Ohio State to his resume. He came very close to getting the Tenn job last year before their fan base shut that down.
2. Mike Norvell, Memphis, almost got the Arky job last year. If he adds another double digit to his resume he might just land at the next P5 opening. I really like his offense.
1. Lane Kiffin, FAU. I just don't see this guy in the G5 next year with another outstanding season under his belt. He has done it all at FAU with a huge successful turnaround job. Not that hard to understand that Kiffin is the number one name on the coaching list that could move up if the right opportunity comes along.
