This is from the article that 509 posted in the QB thread. I found this interesting. I am glad the Prez and Tillman were smart enough to rely on someone like Sampson and Herman to be a part of the process.

Hermans comments on the culture at UH is spot on too.

Question:
The athletic director who hired you, Mack Rhoades, is now at Missouri. Were you already familiar with his replacement, Hunter Yurachek (promoted from chief operating officer of athletics)?

Tom Herman's reply:
He was in every interview, and when Mack left we did a national search. I gotta tip my hat to our chancellor Renu Khator, and Tilman Fertitta, who was running the search committee as the chair of the board of regents. They allowed me and (UH basketball coach) Kelvin Sampson to be very, very involved in the process. We got to speak with five or six different people, basically interview them. I thought Hunter was the right guy for the job, absolutely. I think there is still a culture change that needs to be here. That was the one thing that worried me. I’m certainly not an anti-Hunter Yurachek guy, but I told him I’m an anti-status quo guy. I’m an anti-standard operating procedure guy. I think there’s a lot of cages that need to be rattled around here. The only worry about promoting from within is that won’t get done. He convinced me throughout the interview process he would do it, and his first month on the job he’s followed through with that.

Question:
What’s the biggest cage that needs to be rattled?

Tom Herman's reply:
Oh boy, I don’t wanna get in trouble. There’s a culture around here that we can’t do that, or we can’t afford that, or we’ve never done it that way. There needs to be a culture of “Let’s find a way. We gotta have this.” If that means we work past 5 p.m., hey, we work past 5. If we have to come in before 6, we come in before 6. We ask hard questions to some people in the community. We’ve gotta be willing to work harder, longer, smarter, more creatively than maybe we have in the past. Hunter’s doing a helluva job promoting that culture.
