Speaks very well of the program that two head coaches at pretty good P5 programs (we're not talking Wake Forest or Iowa State) may be considering coming to UH. If both are, I would hire Mullen over Holgerson. I think some of us have good memories of Holgerson as OC here, but I think Mullen is the better coach.
If you take away Holgerson's first season, when WVU had Geno Smith and was picked to win the Big East, and this year, he's 26-25 at WVU with a schedule that annually includes Kansas, Iowa State, etc, not Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Ole Miss, and so on. With that schedule Mullen has gone 60-42 in eight years. MSU finished #11 in '14 and went to the Orange Bowl. I remember UH beating MSU in '03, '05, and Mullen's first season, '09. Sherrill started losing a lot of games then Sylvester Croom couldn't win. They now go to a bowl about every year, and Mullen is a good recruiter as well; he signed the #25 class this past February. Remember he was Meyer's OC well before Herman was, including a natl championship season. If we do have a shot at a P5 head coach he's a guy I think would win a lot of games here.
