As can be expected when a player starts the season like Greg Ward has and is getting the attention he has been getting as of late, the University of Houston has picked up their marketing some of both the Cougars and Greg Ward. They are the hot name right now and I expect a love fest during the broadcast tonight which is a good thing.

« The Houston program enters Friday’s game ranked in the AP Top 25 poll for the first time since 2011. Coming in at No. 24, the ranking marks the first since Houston was ranked No. 18 in the final 2011 poll after a 13-1 season that was capped with a TicketCity Bowl win over Penn State.

« Houston head coach Tom Herman joined rare air in week 4 of the season as he became just the second coach in Houston history with wins in his first three games (now 5-0). John Jenkins accomplished the feat in 1990. He is one of two new head coaches nationally (Jim McElwain - Florida) to remain undefeated.

« Houston is sixth nationally in total offense (573.4 yards per game) and scoring offense (46.4 points per game).

« Herman has vowed Houston will be physical in the trenches, and the numbers are reflecting it. The Cougars rank ninth nationally in rushing defense, allowing just 95.8 yards per game, while ranking eighth in rushing offense with an average of 287.2 yards per game. Houston is the only team in the nation to rank in the top 10 in both categories.

« UH, Baylor and TCU are the only three teams nationally to rank in the top 25 in rushing offense and passing offense. Houston ranks eighth in rushing offense (287.7) and 25th nationally in passing offense (286.2).

« UH and Baylor are the only two teams nationally to score a touchdown on their first drive of every game.

« Houston leads the nation with an average turnover margin of +2 per game.

« Houston is one of 16 teams nationally still undefeated, including three teams in The American (UH, Memphis, Temple). Fifteen of the 16 are in action this weekend including Memphis (Ole Miss) and Temple (UCF).

« This season is the sixth in Houston history for the Cougars to start 5-0 and the first since 2013, when Houston ended the year 8-5. Houston has started 6-0 four times in program history with the last coming in 2011 when the Cougars finished the year 13-1 with a win over Penn State in the TicketCity Bowl.

« Houston and Navy are the only two teams in The American to defeat three different opponents by 21 points or more.

« Junior linebacker Steven Taylor leads the nation in tackles for loss (2.4 per game) and is second nationally in sacks (1.6 per game).
