On Dec 26th I am not sure what the Admin's plans are at this time. But if we go looking for a new HC this guy should definitely be in the mix. It is Neal Brown of Troy. Sure he has been in the coaching threads already as a possibility. But no one has mentioned this reason as to why he should get a look from UH.
Neal Brown is from the Air Raid coaching tree. The NFL is starting to like it but so far other college ADs have shied away from giving Brown a call. This is despite the fact that Brown had three top 40 offenses at TT while serving under Tommy Tuberville. That right there is deserving of a promotion.
As an FBS coach Brown has gone 31-8 for the last three years. Last year he won 11 games while beating LSU.
Brown's teams are anything but plain. "They are bold, opportunistic, and creative." Yet, he about to start his fifth year at Troy and no one has hired him away. What the heck is going on? UH would love to have a coach like that in my opinion.
Wait, you want to talk about defense? After all this is an Air Raid coach we are talking about here. You know one like Kliff used to coach at TT. Well, "this will be the third straight year that Troy finishes in the Def. S&P+ top 50. The Trojans were 45th in 2016 and 17th in 2017, and they were 35th heading into the Dollar General Bowl. They probably aren’t going to sink after holding Buffalo below its season averages in both points and yards per play."
How is that for merging a defense with an Air Raid offense? And so far this guy is due back for his 5th year at Troy. When is the last time UH had a winning coach stay around for 5 years?
I don't know if we are going coach shopping at this time or not but if we do Neal Brown should get a long hard look. And if we don't hire him I want to see one of his peers come on board with as good a resume as he has.
