I will stay away from the game for the most part, there are plenty of threads about that little adventure. I am really glad we got Las Vegas this year, it was a nice change of pace. Just a few thoughts about this trip.

We were lucky to arrive on time on Friday at mid day, many flights were delayed or diverted. The wind was crazy, our plane was seesawing back and forth until the moment it hit the ground. I had never been on such a rocky landing. Upon landing, the flight attendant gave the pilots a shout out over the intercom - "how about those pilots!".

I was torn about staying downtown at the Golden Nugget vs somewhere on the strip. The strip is definitely the sexier choice in Las Vegas. I was traveling with my 18 year old son (read: no gambling and no adult excursions). We stayed at the Golden Nugget and I am glad we did. I think Tilman and the folks at the Golden Nugget did a really nice job. Houston signage and fan gear everywhere, really fun pro-Houston environment. The hotel is actually pretty good, and the rate the Houston fans got was really nice.

The pregame event Friday night on Fremont Street was a lot of fun The MC did a good job, Kyle Allen and the S&C Coach (sorry, forget the name) did a good job pumping up the crowd. There were some band and cheer squad competitions that were declared a tie between the two teams. To decide the matter, they did a mascot dance off that turned out hilarious. Our Shasta can absolutely get down, and was a huge hit. Then the muscled up Aztec stepped up 2nd for his dance and looked like Pee Wee Herman, that was even more hilarious. It was a really good time.

No game or bowl is complete without some discussion of our attendance numbers. I think we showed well. Downtown was full of Houston people, skewed by the Golden Nugget deal, but we were there in numbers nonetheless. At the game, my seat was a pretty low row and not a great vantage point. However, looking up it seemed as if we had a pretty sizable contingent in the stands. I have to think our numbers were good enough to continue to be a candidate for better bowls.

Lastly, we just got home. Flights were delayed everywhere yesterday due to weather in other parts of the country. We were delayed out of Las Vegas and missed our connection in Dallas, had to spend the night there and get out on Monday.

Fun trip in spite of the game results. Thanks 2016 Cougar Football team!
