They weren't motivated by exhibiting genuine unity with the players. They were being 100% opportunistic. The NFL owners were getting pilloried day after day after day by the media and other professional athletes for allegedly colluding against the signing of Colin Kaepernick. There was even talk about folks boycotting the NFL until CK got signed. The owners were beginning to metaphorically perspire. Then Trump inadvertently threw them a lifeline by calling players who kneel sons of bitches. The owners then brilliantly and strategically began condemning Trump. It was perfect: the owners got to suck up to the players, and Colin Kaepernick is still unemployed.
