This completely off-topic but I know you guys have a wealth of knowledge. Here is my conundrum- I mistakenly purchased a non-refundable ticket for the wrong day. I realized it (after 24 hr grace period) and called United and spoke with multiple folks and result was there was nothing I could do as I purchased a non-refundable/changeable ticket. I then thought maybe I could get AMEX to cancel but even though they were very sympathetic- nothing they could do as it was "non refundable".

Now I have 2 round trip tickets as I didn't think I had any other option. Any ideas before I cancel the ticket or just don't show up for one of the flights, i.e. any way to recoup- anything?

Just a note to anyone using United- pay the extra $30.00 for the flexible economy class for your sanity...
