Houston has had no qualms about dipping into the JUCO ranks to find seasoned playmakers that can potentially come in and make an immediate impact and already have several JUCO offers out for the class of 2018.
There's one JUCO DT that's worth keeping an eye on in Fort Scott (KS) Fort Scott C.C. DT Jared Goldwire.
Goldwire is a massive 6-foot-6, 295-pound defensive tackle that could be an anchor in the middle of a defensive line. Currently rated as a Rivals.com three-star prospect coming out of the JUCO ranks he holds several offers. Joining Houston are the likes of Alabama, Arizona State, Colorado, Iowa State, Kansas State, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Oklahoma and TCU.
I had a brief conversation with Goldwire talking about his recruitment.
Any favorites? - absolutely none. He told me he's taking his time with the whole process and wants to take visits before he really starts to narrow things down. He'll be an early enrollee in January so this summer and early part of the season this year will be key in seeing where each team stacks up for Goldwire's services. He told me all teams are basically even at this point.
What's he looking for ? - Goldwire wants to find a school that has an excellent business program, which is something that could potentially help Houston down the road. The top three three things he listed to me were a good business school, a great coaching staff and a good environment.
If Houston can do enough to secure him on a visit and give him a good pitch for their business program you would have to imagine with the opportunity for early playing time for a massive, seasoned DT like himself that would put them very much in the mix when it came time for Goldwire to start narrowing things down. Keep an eye on his recruitment, if Houston can indeed get a visit, things could get interesting.
