What struck me the most is Oregon. Not only do they have the most revenue they have by a factor of almost 3 the most profit is about 86 million. UT is second in revenue but revenue-minus expense only nets Texas around 7 million. Alabama is around 30 while most are around 10 million. Under Oregon the numbers are nothing to sneeze at but I doubt audit accountants would see Texas' 7 million net gain as material.

http://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/finances/ I think this is 13 because it list Rutgers and Louisville as AAC.

UH ranks 66 with $40 million revenue. Oregon had a profit over twice UH's revenue! Surprisingly, UCONN had the highest G5 revenue at $71 million.

The mentioned Big 12 competitors.
UCONN $71 rev, $71 exp sub $27
Cicni $59 rev, $55 exp sub $27
MEM $50 rev, $50 exp sub $19
UCF $49 rev, $45 exp sub $22
USF $48 rev, $46 exp sub $21
UH $40 rev, $39 exp sub $21

BYU is private so numbers are available. The numbers tell a little more than attendance. Cinci is lagging in attendance but still brings in about $13 million more net sub (Cinci $32 million before sub, UH $19 million before sub). Memphis is bringing in about $12 million more revenue before the sub. UCF is about $8 million before sub.

I think this is showing our attendance and donation problems well. Memphis is bringing over 1.5 times our revenue before subs $31 million compared to $19 million. UCF is close to 1.5 times our revenue before sub. Considering we have the same media contracts this means a big difference in attendance and donations.

I can see why UCONN doesn't seem so far out to some speculators. They have the highest G5 revenue and at around $47 million revenue are head and shoulders above the rest as far as ticket proceeds and donations. If the Big 12 is looking for someone who will increase the revenue or keep it the same UH was a little lower on the list than I would have liked to see.
Basketball can be very profitable even if usually second to football you know UCONN and Mem aren't making that bank on football. Even Cinci might be pulling more from BB. I think the rumor is basketball is important is right. We need to step up basketball as well. More football sales will help but we can't keep getting fans in the 100s for BB and have mediocre football attendance and compete with the upper class basketball schools who have lower middle class football attendance.

I think the inference is BB is much more important than most people notice.
