So the Fertitta Center Seating Process was a failure, right? / Convince me to buy season tickets

I'm rarely critical of our alma mater. I love her until I take that last breath through clenched teeth, but I'd like to hear some candid thoughts.

I think it's pretty easy to see that the process by now is a failure. Maybe failure isn't the right word I'm looking for. Obviously some folks got seats that they love and are very happy with, but as a whole? Like... not the success that UH was hoping they would get?

These are sections 112-114, the best seats not in the club.

By now everyone that donated to Tier 1 picked their seats. Those first ten rows in all of those seats have a lot of seats left.

No one else is picking those during this process. I don't know how many Tier 2 people are left, but I can't imagine it's many. The only seats that definitely sold out are in the very center and in rows 11-20. And we managed to piss off some very loyal folks by taking seats from there for IMG and board members?

There are 18 seats left in CO1, 40 in CO2, 12 in CO3(that's the center one), 50 in CO4, 20 in CO5.

That's 140 of those left, and those club people are done for in the seat selection process. None of those have moved in a few days.

The club seats don't really matter in the point I'm trying to make. The point I'm trying to make is that we took seats that were 250 in Hofheinz, and tried to raise the price to 825(2,500 seat donation divided by 5 plus 325 ticket), and a lot of people didn't go for it. We priced ourselves above what our fan base is willing to do.

I really don't think we're going to move a ton of these seats after the seat selection process. So what happens now, we have empty seats in the main areas along the sideline? We do flash sales like always? And I know some of you are going to say, "It doesn't bother me one bit that I paid 55 dollars for my ticket(825 divided by 15), and the guy sitting next to me paid 5 dollars." But it'd bother me a TON. I'd feel stupid, like if I just wasted a ton of money. Maybe that's because I'm not at this baller level that a lot of you guys are, but I make 57K a year, and feeling like I didn't get a great value bothers me. I would venture to say that a lot of our fanbase feels like this too. But it's not possible to have this conversation with the "Coogs' House" group on Facebook because that's just folks posting pictures of themselves on vacation with Cougar gear on. Sidenote: Please don't take that as me insulting those folks. They are awesome, and I love that people are wearing our school colors in foreign lands. Just saying, can't have a conversation on there as what you post gets pushed to the bottom quickly.

I think the seat selection process showed that the demand for Cougar basketball isn't there.

I say this because I don't think I'm going to buy season tickets after having them for 6 years(since I graduated). And I recognize that I'm one of the more loyal ones, so if I'm saying it, there must be lots more thinking it too! I don't want to pay 175 to be behind a basket. You guys can say there's not a bad seat in the house all you want, but behind the basket sucks. No one sat behind the basket at TSU if they could help it. I live off of the West Airport exit off of 59 South right where Stafford and Meadows Place meet. It's a pain in the butt to get a Wednesday 6 PM game. And we will have like 3/4 of those. So rather than stress myself out, I'm really leaning toward just going to Stubhub(or waiting for flash sales) and buying tickets there for like 10 out of the 15 games a year. I'll probably spend like 200 dollars but have better seats than I would paying 175 to be behind the basket.

What do you gentlemen think? Is this another Pogo/UH Athletic department failure?

Or is there something super motivating you can say to me to buy these tickets? I'm all ears. I listen to people, and my mind can be changed.
