Great NSD presser from Herman, per usual.. He wasn't asked the question, but kind of brought it up on his own, regarding whether or not recruits ask about his future at Houston and what he says in response.. He really, really, likes winning and I think the list of 8-10 blue blood schools we mention he could leave for may be even less than that..Maybe it's shrinking as time goes by..
He's obviously selling the recruits on the vision of UH, but with each and every bit of success he also seems to sell himself a bit more.. Several times in the presser he mentioned being taken aback as he considered just how much potential there is for success at UH.. I tried to paraphrase a bit, but I'm sure the presser will be on Youtube shortly:
Coach Herman on getting asked by recruits if he'll be around (Houston) in the future:
"I get asked that question by recruits every day… but what I tell them is the truth, and the truth is that the way the system is setup now, with the college football playoff committee deciding the playoff and the new year's six games, plus the highest-ranked G5 team getting in the NY6 bowl game.. In my opinion, the AAC has undoubtedly separated itself from the rest of the Non P5 conferences. So, barring some miracle season from some other team in some other conference, if you win the AAC, you're going to a NY6 bowl game.
You're going to go to the Rose Bowl, the Fiesta Bowl, the Cotton Bowl, the Orange Bowl. I mean, we're talking about some of the grandest, the most historic bowl games in all of college football. And you're gonna play the best of the best, and, quite frankly, you're gonna beat the best of the best.
And so, why do I say that? Because the path to those things, to winning championships.. It's no fun going 7-5. It stinks, in fact. It's really, really not fun. What's really fun is when it feels like the whole city of Houston rushes onto the field and you're holding the trophy and confetti is falling and you're beating one of the blue-bloods by two touchdowns in the Peach Bowl. Those things are the really fun things..
So, when these P5 schools come calling, what are they gonna offer you that we're not? SO, you couple that with what Dr. Khator, admins, etc. have done here both in athletics in academia.. I'd ask you why go anywhere else?
You think a path to a NY6 bowl game and a championship is easier there? A championship.. You're gonna be on a stage with tens of thousands of people at your feet, and kissing trophies, etc..?
