An SMU fan who serves as moderator on the AAC board has posted a couple of not-so-cryptic replies recently.
Replying to a UH fan who was complaining yesterday about ESPN Gameday saying UCF was no better than Utah St or Fresno St:
"Tell your president as she's voting to stay with them in a couple of weeks."
**************
Replying to a UCF fan who stated last week that $8M/yr per school in the next deal would be horrible and that he wanted $15M/yr per school:
"Then you are really going to be pissed next month."
**************
Sounds like ESPN has made a proposal at $8M/yr per school max (and probably less) which will be voted on early November. And that Renu has made her position known that she's in favor.
At this stage of the negotiation, ESPN would be bidding to retain exclusive rights to the whole inventory, which it could then resell certain games to other networks.
In order to go to the open market in February and sell off our inventory tier by tier, we would have to reject ESPN's bid.
All along, I expected our next deal to produce $5-8M/year per school. We'll soon find out.
