Scrimmage No.1

Houston head coach Major Applewhite and the Cougars held their first scrimmage of the spring on Saturday. Though the scrimmage was closed to media, there were some notable takeaways from the scrimmage when looking at the reports media received from the University of Houston.

Allen Leading The Way

Junior quarterback Kyle Allen saw the bulk of the action at quarterback in Saturday's scrimmage. Completing 30-of-50 passing attempts for 247 yards and two TD's with two INT's. He had a solid connection with Marquez Stevenson who led all receivers with nine receptions for and had 47 yards. Terry Mark caught the two touchdown passes in a five reception, 45-yards receiving effort.

Mulbah Car and Duke Catalon saw most of the carries at running back with six carries a piece. As a team the Cougars had 33 carries during the scrimmage compared to 60 passing attempts. Car had 22 yards and Catalon 19. Kyle Allen was third in rushing yards with 16 yards on three carries.

Defensively there were a couple of takeways worth noting. The two that stood out to me was Zach Vaughan and Isaiah Johnson.

Vaughan had four tackles with one sack and a fumble recovery defensively. The other thing that stood out to me was former wide receiver and new defensive back Isaiah Johnson who was tied with Roman brown for a team-high five defensive stops for the Cougars.

Also worth noting are Terrell Williams and Kahlil Williams who were the two ballhawks that came away with the interceptions against Kyle Allen.

Here are the rest of the defensive stats.

Recruiting Visitors

Houston hosted close to 40 prospects give or take on Saturday. Here are the names to know of those on campus.

Keli'i Montibon - JUCO lineman in for an official visit this weekend. Houston is in a pretty good position with him and I'm hearing the staff is pretty confident with their chances of landing him. The Cougars offered Montibon earlier this month joining Cal, FAU, Nevada and Liberty.

Here's Montibon's Highlight Video

Dekalen Goodson - Goodson is a three-star outside linebacker from Tyler (TX) John Tyler. He picked up an offer from Houston shortly after his time on campus. Houston is his fourth offer, the Cougars join Mississippi State, ULL and Texas State as his only offers thus far.
