HOUSTON – The Houston Football program announced the addition of four transfers Tuesday in wide receiver Ellis Jefferson from Arizona State, offensive lineman Deon Mix from Auburn, defensive lineman Courtel Jenkins from Miami and defensive lineman Reggie Chevis from Texas A&M.
As graduate transfers, Jefferson, Mix and Chevis are eligible immediately for the 2017 season. As an undergraduate transfer, Jenkins will sit out the 2017 season under NCAA transfer rules.

Chevis (6-1, 290) joins Houston after playing in 17 career games with the Aggies, including all 13 games in 2016. He totaled 25 tackles, including two for a loss last season, and one sack while forcing one fumble. The Houston native originally signed with Texas A&M as a linebacker out of Sharpstown High School over offers from LSU, Oklahoma and TCU among others.
A native of Denton, Texas, Jefferson saw action in 38 games over three years with the Sun Devils. The big-bodied receiver (6-5, 210) pulled in 25 receptions for 325 yards and two touchdowns. Jefferson helped lead Denton Guyer High School to the 2012 Texas Class 4A Division I state championship and originally chose ASU in 2013 over Colorado, Michigan State and Mississippi State among others.
Mix (6-4, 315) saw action in six games during his time at Auburn with three games in 2016. The Batesville, Miss., native provided depth at both guard and center for the Tigers. The versatile lineman was a PrepStar All-American out of South Panola High School and originally chose the Tigers over Alabama, Georgia and Texas among others.
In his three seasons at Miami, Jenkins saw action in 34 games with seven starts. The Jersey City, N.J., native totaled 54 tackles, including 7.5 for loss. Jenkins (6-2, 320), also had one forced fumble and one pass breakup. His most promising year came in 2015 under current Houston defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio when he had 29 tackles in 12 games with seven starts at nose tackle
