Looking at our offense for 2015, 2016, and 2017 we see that the passing game is remarkably consistant.
2015 Ward completed 67% of his passes for an avg of 12.2 yards per completion.17 tds 6 int.
2016 Ward completed 68% for an avg of 11.2 yards per comp. 22 tds 13 int
2017 Allen completed 69% for 9.4 yards per comp. 2 TD's and 4 int ( taking out Rice game )
2017 Postma completing 68% for 10.2 yards per comp. 5 TD's and 6 int ( taking out rice )

The biggest difference in our offense these last three seasons is the running from the QB position. It seems this Herman/MA offense hinges on a QB being able to run the ball. Our offense has Trended down since 2015. We see the QB running stats as follows:

2015 Ward 1108 yards rushing, 5.6 yard per rush, 21 TD's
2016 Ward 518 yards rushing 2.6 yards per rush 10 TD'S
2017 Postma 200 yards rushing 4.4 yards per 1 TD
2017 Allen -14 yards -1.3 per 0 TD

It started in 2014. O'Korn ran for 18 yards and 0.6 per rush. As a result he completed only 52% of his passes and had 6 TD's and 8 interceptions.Keep in mind that O'Korns stats included games againts UTSA, Grambling, UNLV and UCF. We scored 47 against Grambling and UNLV for our 2 wins and lost the other three games O'Korn started, Ward started against Memphis after O'korn scored 12 points againts UCF at home falling to 2-3.
Ward ran for 573 yards and 4.9 per rush. He completed 67.3% with 12 TD's and 7 interceptions. So Ward was consistent in completing 67/68%.all three years. Our big year was the year he really became a threat running the ball. With his shoulder injury and the staff not wanting him to run our offense started to slide back the last half of last year.

So I can see why MA seems to be recruiting dual threat QB's who are a threat running. Given our position in the food chain in regards to OL's we simply must have a guy with legs given the speed many defenses have today.
