Curious what local high school baseball aficionados think of Pope from Cy Ranch, Graham’s right hand assistant?

He and former Major Leaguer Paul Janish are both fairly new, only one year.

In reviewing their roster and the results for their Fr and So recruiting classes, while there are some nuggets overall both classes seem to be well below historic Rice standards.

With both assistants new to the college coaching level it understandably will take some period of time for them to get rolling but Pope with two recent state titles and Janish’s playing credentials I would expect these guys to start recruiting well.

Also missing are Juco players in sufficient numbers, though one of the guys hitting is a Juco kid from Louisiana.

Juco recruiting is one way to turn things around quickly.

Any thoughts?

Current team has only three guys hitting and the rest are really meh. Pitching is definitely not at normal levels based on stats alone. But it is still a bit early, both facets could still get on a roll.
