The AAC desperately needs a signature bowl for its champion to play in when that team does not go to the NY6 Bowl. In my opinion none of the current bowls on the AAC list moves the needle for a league that bills itself as a P6 conference.

Houston already has a bowl you say? Yes, but the Texas Bowl is more geared to P5 conferences. It has been 8 years since a so called G5 Navy team last played in it.

Could the sponsors make a go of it? Don't know. There have been multiple sponsor changes in the Texas Bowl over the last several years with Academy being it's current sponsor. But in the football crazy state of Texas and in one of its biggest cities of over 6 million people some sponsor ought to be able to make a go of it. This area's population has tripled since 1972 and still growing.

But Aresco needs to get something going on this. We cannot be a P6 conference while at the same time we are sending our champion or even its number two to bowls with names like Birmingham and Gasparilla. The AAC needs a bowl better suited for its P6 status. The Bluebonnet Bowl has a rich history of teams like Texas, OU, Clemson, Arkansas, Nebraska, USC, and Stanford to name a few. Of course our own University of Houston played in it 4 times before joining the SWC.

This might be an idea whose time has come. Bring back the Bluebonnet. Play it in the in the warm confines of the NRG.
