Good evening Cougar fans, let me start by saying Cougars Den has a new reporter that will help with the on campus presence we've been missing. Her name is Baileigh Sheffield, she's a Cougar and former member of UH Cheer. Today was her first day attending practice and below are some of her notes and observations from what she was able to take in during the 20 minute media session at the beginning of practice.

She'll continue to ease in over the next several days in an effort to bring you guys more content and value.

Baileigh Sheffield Notes

-Running Back Josh Burrell was seen standing to the side not practicing today he has been on crutches.

-During the practice of kick off returns Marquez Stevenson was very quick. He also ran some pretty good routes. Stevenson was able to break through defensive a couple of times and even caught a very inaccurate pass.

-Tight End Christian Trahan did well during drills he has quick feet and pushes through other guys with lots of power.

-D’eriq King stood out during their quarterback drills and redshirt freshman Ike Ogbogu surprised as well. The two had accurate throws and displayed a strong arm during practice.

-Although the quarterback battle seems to look pretty competitive King appears to have maintained his expected lead heading into camp. Houston offensive coordinator Kendal Briles said, “ Everyday we’re out here competing but D’eriq is our lead guy.”

-Quarterback Bryson Smith may be someone to look out for not only at quarterback but other positions as well. Briles mentioned Smith looked good at quarterback and the other positions they had him trying out.

-Briles also added that offensive tackle Josh Jones had been standing out during camp. “He’s doing very well and has turned out to be a leader for us", said Briles.

-Houston defensive coordinator Mark D’onofrio noted that there are a bunch of guys that have done well but didn't want to single out any individual players. "We're just trying to deepen our roster and strengthen our team, we're not worried about single individuals right now.”

“This is a fun group of guys to coach we’ve been getting better and they've been trying to learn, D’Onofrio added.
