First, I know that the booming season ticket sales are about more than just our opponent, OU. Our 13-1 record, recruiting, coaching staff, and potential top ten preseason ranking all play a part in that. But the fact remains we are seeing astronomical season ticket sales and our first game is against Oklahoma. There has to be a connection. If OU is playing a big part in the booming season ticket sales it begs the question, why don't we do this more often? We are making money here, big money. This is in addition to the Advo Care payout which is going to be in multi-million dollar range.
So the equation seems to me to be, big opponent equals big bucks. If we are spending all this money on facility upgrades, it just makes sense to have at least one challenging game on our home schedule every year. The proof is in. People want to see UH play these kinds of matchups, lots and lots of people. The money we make will help us pay for those expensive upgrades that were desperately needed.
