As a lifetime Houston fan, and a Texas grad, I have gritted my teeth and shut up every time you boys talk about UT as entitlement U. Trust me, gentlemen, there aren't as many of us here, but we take second place to no one in the area of entitlement.
You guys want Chip Kelly but you whine like snowflakes/Trumpkins whenever we lose a game. Great coaches aren't born. They grow into their jobs. It doesn't often happen in 3 weeks, or even 3 years, but when you get a bright guy, well grounded, a proven winner, who thinks before he speaks, recruits effectively, and treats others kids as we would want our own boys to be treated ... well, you give him 3 years and you support him while he grows into the job.
Major Applewhite didn't lose the football game. Nor did he win it.
Our team turned the ball over 5 times.
Our center had a helluva time struggling with the shotgun snap.
Our offensive line continues not to be able to create significant space for backs to succeed.
We didn't tackle as well as should be expected.
We had a few uncharacteristic drops on key third down situations.
In general, our third down efficiency was sub par.
Most importantly, we got gashed by three big plays.
Should Postma or King be the starters? I don't know. But Kyle Allen was considered the #1QB in his class when he signed with A&M. He missed a full season. He hasn't looked great other against Rice, which is hard to evaluate. But 3 games. Again, if that was your son, wouldn't you have a bit more empathy? That said, I absolutely want to see him use his legs more. Postma proved that there was running room available if Kyle had wanted to use it. That has to be a point of emphasis this week in practice.
Everyone of us should have anticipated a growth curve for this coaching staff. Everyone of use should have anticipated an adjustment for the team with the loss of Ward, the loss of our starting corners, the loss of a dynamic pass rusher in Bowser.
This isn't a national championship quality squad. But we have every chance of competing for a conference championship. Yeah, I'm always suggesting patience. I believe that we will win with Major Applewhite. And I think we will win sooner rather than later.
