I spoke to someone that has researched the situation extensively and had some opinions regarding how things could shake out when (not if) ESPN files for bankruptcy. How long will Disney continue to prop up a company that is bleeding red by the billions of dollars? When ESPN is forced to reorganize, they will be able to play a fixed amount of money for the current inventory they have. They will not be able to keep it all. The NBA and NFL will get the money first but how much will be left over for college football. It would appear likely that ESPN could default on their contractual obligations with some of the conferences freeing them to renegotiate their deals. There will be plenty of networks waiting to pounce.
It could get very interesting.
