The Houston Cougars currently sit at 20 commitments, with just a few spots left for the class of 2018. Here's a quick update on the areas the staff are focusing on and some of the top players at the top of their shortlists at each position. They are really working on OL, LB and CB.

Offensive Line

The staff is still trying to figure out exactly how many more they'd like to take but they would like to add some numbers along the offensive line. There are two currently committed in Jack Freeman And Max Banes they're happy with where they are guard/center body wise, but are looking at the offensive tackle position.

One name I hear is at the top of their wishlist at the tackle position is Braeden Daniels who has 10 + offers currently. In addition to Houston he's got offers from Arizona, Illinois, Kansas, Tulsa, Utah and Utah State to name a few.

Another player at the top of the shortlist is massive 6-foot-7 tackle prospect Mike Ruth who holds offers from Arizona State, Boise State, Columbia, Houston, Indiana, Iowa State, Kansas State, Memphis, Miami, Princeton, Rice, Texas Tech and Yale to name just a few.

Linebacker

Houston currently has two commitments for 2018 in Dekalen Goodson and Donavan Mutin. The Houston staff would like to add at least one more linebacker for the class of 2018.

The top three names to watch at linebacker are Jacoby Simpson, Nicholas Bolton and current Oklahoma State commitment Blake Barron.

Jacob Mangum-Farrar is a guy they've always wanted but the names above are the top three names being pursued right now at the linebacker position.

A few other guys they like near the top of the list are Joseph Ogunbanjo and Bryant Pirtle who is an interesting JUCO prospect out of Tuscon (AZ) Pima Community College.

Defensive Back

Houston has three commitments at the defensive back position and there's a very strong possibility they'll add a few more before all is said and done.

They're really liking an addition at the nickel back position and a player they've identified there and are pursuing heavily is local standout Hasaan Hypolite who is a Rivals.com three-star prospect.

To name a few of his offers, Hypolite currently holds offers from Colorado, ECU, Southern Miss and Texas Tech in addition to his offer from Houston.

They may not be done there, they could add another cornerback or two in the mix also. They were stoked to get Zaire Taylor at the cornerback position who joined Johnathan Phenix but I'm told they're still recruiting the position heavily.

Chris Mills of Converse (TX) Judson is one of the players at the top of their wishlist. The coaching staff really likes his speed at the cornerback position. He holds offers from Houston, Arizona, BYU, Michigan State, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Tulsa and Texas Tech to name a handful.
