If a football recruit wants to be picked in the first round of the draft, come to Houston. If you are good enough you are as likely to be picked in the first round at Houston as you are in many of the so called P5 schools. Our last first rounder came in 2016, William Jackson lll. Our next first rounder is very likely to be Ed Oliver our All American and 2017 Outland Trophy winner.
Compare that to these schools. Arizona, our OOC P5 opponent, has not had a first round pick in the NFL draft since 2008. The same for Arkansas, 2008. How about other, mighty SEC schools. Auburn's last first rounder came in 2014. Mississippi State, 2012, South Carolina 2014.
Big 12? Kansas 2008, Kansas State 2009, Oklahoma 2013, and Texas 2015.
Sure, this is simplistic and there are many P5 schools that do better than Houston in the draft. But so what. All the talented players can't go to those schools. Alabama can only take 25 a year. Same goes for the other perennial top 10-15 schools.
So, if you have the bona fides like an Ed Oliver or a William Jackson lll and want to go high in the draft come to Houston. You will not be over looked because you won't be riding the pine behind some other highly rated recruit. You will be on tv as many of our games are televised. You will play against very good competition. Our teams in the AAC beat some of the better P5 teams all the time. Just ask Auburn, OU, Florida State, and Louisville.
