UH needs a special teams coach. We didn't have one this season. When you don't have a special teams coach, you produce the following results in your bowl game:
A missed (makeable) field goal that saps momentum;
Two kick returners who collide and collectively muff a catch that produces a fumble which allows the opponent an easy scoring opportunity; and
Perhaps the worst executed on sides kick attempt in NCAA history.
Yes, UH blocked a kick and returned it for a TD, but the score was the result of a lucky bounce, which is not something that can be coached.
The net result of our special teams play was about the same as the rest of this season: it could have been a whole lot better.
