Yes, one Houston school, UH, will play a basketball game tonight against another Houston school, Rice, at yet another Houston school, TSU. I don't know how much more Houston-centric a college sporting event could possibly be.
Yet there is no mention of this game whatsoever in the sports section of today's "Houston" Chronicle. There is, however, a commentary piece in the sports section from Jenny Screech that is headlined "No reason for Oliver to return, risk health". Has anyone seen her at a UH football game this year?
I recognize that it is not the Chronicle's job to promote UH sporting events, and I understand that the Chronicle is not owned by Houstonians. And, the Chronicle treats A&M and UT as "local" schools for coverage purposes because it is so cheap for them to do so. - Sadly, none of this is new.
Perhaps it is time for our local daily newspaper to change its name to just "The Chronicle" and quit purporting to be Houston's hometown newspaper. Because it's not.
