The University of Houston held an exclusive invite only event this weekend that was similar to a junior day, but from what I'm told they weren't exactly calling it a junior day because they wanted to keep it exclusive. The invites were invited to attend the Houston basketball game against USF which turned out to be a 71-59 win over the Bulls moving Houston to 26-1 on the year. I was told some of the recruits ended up leaving early, but a good bit of them stayed and enjoyed the game.
Whether we classify it as a junior day or invite only event, none the less there was a large group of big time visitors on campus this weekend that are top targets for Houston.
This weekend was the second time Hornsby visited Houston this week as the Cougar coaching staff continues to make Fort Bend Marshall standout a top priority.
Achane visited with Hornsby on Thursday as well and then came back again for this weekend. He's been on campus multiple times already and is certainly an interesting name to watch at the running back position moving forward.
Four-star cornerback Avery anchored the outstanding trio from Fort Bend Marshall. Helm is has the size and quality you like to see at cornerback. Houston certainly has their work cut out for them with plenty of competition. Helm already has 20 offers on the table, but if the Cougars can continue to grow their relationship with the top prospects at Marshall, it should help them get some returning visits and the more times they get these types of kids on campus the better the odds.
Five-star running back Zach Evans could arguably be tabbed as the headliner of this weekends visits. Evans is the No.2 prospects overall on Rivals and joined a few other North Shore teammates on campus to check out Houston. The Cougars are considered a bit of a long shot in this one, but it would be unfair to say they have no chance. Getting him on campus with his teammates has to count for something, it will be interesting to see how often Holgorsen and Co. can get Evans on campus in the future.
Wilson is a three-star cornerback from North Shore High School that holds a Houston offer. The talented safety holds five offers including Houston, Arizona, FAU, Louisiana-Monroe and UMass.
Another local standout from North Shore High School, Flagg is a three-star prospect that already has 13 offers on the table. Joining Houston are the likes of Boston College, Kansas State, Memphis, Oklahoma State, SMU and Texas Tech to name a few. He's been getting a lot of attention from Texas Tech and as it stands now they could be the team to beat for his services.
Another North Shore product that should see increased attention as the recruiting process moves on is athlete John Gentry. Arkansas and North Texas are his only two offers currently, but that should change as the process moves on.
Three-star offensive tackle Damieon George was is a Rivals.com three-star prospect that joined the trip to Houston with a group of his teammates. The Cougars are considered a long shot here and failed to make a recent top 10 released from George early last month. Things could change, but as it sits now the Cougars appear to be on the outside looking in for George.
Four-star Hightower product currently committed to Texas A&M joined a few teammates in making the short trip to Houston over the weekend.
Current LSU commit and Rivals.com four-star defensive end Alec Bryant made the trip in from Pearland. He committed to LSU last weekend.
2020 defensive end still seeking a Houston offer. Currently has offers from Louisiana-Monroe and Utah State.
Three-star offensive lineman that recently transferred to the Houston area from Fulshear (TX). He'll play for Foster High School. Has five offers currently from Houston, North Texas, SMU, Tulsa and UTSA.
